HMD Global has submitted yet another device to the FCC for certification. The company responsible for developing and selling Nokia’s range of communication devices officially appealed to the FCC to admit a device that is only identifiable through its FCCID TA-1085. Interestingly, the company has mentioned a few other mystery devices with the FCCIDs TA-1095, TA-1096, And 1100 as well. However, the certification process appears to be limited to TA-1085 only.
Nokia’s parent company and authorized seller HMD Global has been actively seeking certification for a number of mobile phones. In fact, the company has submitted several mysterious devices, ranging from feature phones to premium smartphones, to a few official authorities across the globe.
Mystery Nokia Device With FCC Identifier 2AJOTTA-1085:
Very little is known about the mystery device that HMD Global has submitted to FCC. In fact, HMD Global made submission this week itself. As always, there’s a specific request for the strictest of confidentiality about the device. However, the FCC page setup for the TA-1085 indicates the device is a “Part 15 Class B Computing Device Peripheral”. Usually this can mean several things. But the listing does specifically mention that 2AJOTTA-1085 is a “Smart Phone”.
Essentially, this means HMD Global is in the very early phase of getting a new Nokia smartphone certified for wireless communication. The company has presently applied for the FCC certification for the mystery Nokia smartphone. Such certifications are critical for any mobile device that has multiple cellular and other wireless communication protocols, including Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, etc.
Could The Nokia TA-1085 Smartphone Also Have Health And Fitness Monitoring?
Interestingly, the TA-1085 may pack some health and fitness related hardware as well. Although not specifically mentioned, the device appears to have “Low Power Transmitters below 1 GHz”, “Unintentional Radiators” and “Consumer ISM devices”. ISM stands for Industrial Scientific and Medical devices.
The equipment with such markings deploys a certain form of radio energy that is used for purposes other than communications. In simple words, such devices send out energy that is meant to reflect off of the test subject. The equipment then measures the bounced or reflected energy to draw inferences. Oftentimes smart health monitoring devices use such a technique.
Sadly, owing to the recentness of the submission, there’s no mention of the frequency range, output in watts, frequency tolerance, and such other parameters. These could have shed some light on the mystery Nokia smartphone.
HMD Global Takes On Chinese Smartphone Makers With Multiple Nokia Smartphones:
Finnish Company HMD Global has aggressively stepped up its activities and has recently unveiled a handful of smartphones: the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 5.1. It appears the company is actively playing the affordable and mid-range Android smartphone market buy vying for the premium segment as well. Interestingly, the company has so far managed to offer interesting specifications. Coupled with the promise of a clean Android operating system with no customizations or bloatware, the Nokia smartphones have strongly appealed to fans of a clean Android experience.
Incidentally, Nokia might unveil the Nokia 6.1 Plus or the Nokia 5.1 in India next month at their upcoming launch event. The company recently published a teaser, indicating that it might launch the mid-range smartphones soon. The Nokia 6.1 Plus sports a 5.8-inch 19:9 display. An octa-core 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 636 chipset paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB storage powers the smartphones. The device runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. It features a 16MP+5MP dual camera setup, 16MP front selfie shooter, and has a 3060mAh battery.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus, on the other hand, comes with a 5.86-inch 19:9 display with a 720×1520 pixels resolution and a rather humble 287 PPI pixel density. MediaTek’s MT6771 Helio P60 SoC, paired with Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, powers the smartphone. The device packs either 3GB/4GB RAM, and has 32GB/64GB internal storage. It sports a 13MP+5MP dual rear-facing camera and an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calling. It has the same battery as the other Nokia smartphone.
